Victor Alcántara (*1975) is a professor at the University of Protestant Church Music Bayreuth (HfK), where he teaches jazz-rock-pop piano and arranging. He also directs the University Big Band Bayreuth, a cooperation between the HfK and the University of Bayreuth, and also teaches at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich. He completed his doctorate in musicology at the University of Performing Arts Graz with a thesis on the mirror symmetry of the keyboard. His piano concerto “Toccata Concertante” was awarded third prize at the II International Uuno Klami Composition Competition in Finland in 2009. As a pianist and songwriter, he has released numerous CDs with his own formations, and as a composer he has worked for television, cinema and show productions. His compositions are published by Schott and Strube. As a researcher, he gives lectures at international conferences, to which he has been invited at the Moscow Conservatory and the Georg August University in Göttingen, among others. He is currently working with the Monika Roscher Bigband and the percussion ensemble Drumaturgia.
